Hypertension is the leading preventable cause of cardiovascular disease. It varies in the workplace depending on the sector of activity. This study assessed its prevalence and associated factors among AANSAM workers based in Dakar. This descriptive, cross-sectional and analytical study was carried out from 1 January to 30 March 2022. Workers who received an annual medical check-up and agreed to participate in the study were included. The survey was conducted using an anonymous questionnaire. The data were analysed using Epi Info 7 software. A total of 263 workers were included. The sample was composed of 65.8% men and 80.6% managers. The average age was 51.8 years, with 33- and 60-years extremes. The average job tenure was 12.5 years. Abdominal obesity (69.2%), smoking (9.1%), alcoholism (10.3%), family history of hypertension (34.6%) and diabetes (11.4%) were found. Body mass index was abnormally high in 68.1% of cases. The prevalence of hypertension was 36.5%. Age, number of dependents, family history of hypertension, diabetes, obesity and alcoholism were associated with the occurrence of hypertension (p˂0.05). High blood pressure is a reality among AANSAM headquarters staff. Smoking cessation, a balanced diet and regular physical activity all play an essential role in prevention, hence the need to promote greater awareness.
