Use of the surgical safety checklist at the University Hospital Centers of Burkina Faso
Keywords:

Various studies have shown that the use of the WHO checklist reduces the morbidity and mortality associated with the act of anesthesia and surgery. Its exploitation in Burkina Faso is recent and variously appreciated. The objective of our study is to analyze its use in operating theaters of university hospital centers (CHU). This is a cross-sectional study whose data collection was done through the maintenance, observation and exploitation of documents. All four CHUs in the country were included in the study. The information was collected from operating room staff and checklists. A total of 73% of respondents said they knew about the checklist; 94% said they had a good perception of the tool both in form and substance while 90% felt that the checklist was useful. The usage rate of the tool was only 7%. The study revealed the unavailability of the tool and the hostility of health workers regarding its use.
